raci POLYMER DIVISION

The Aims of the Polymer Division of the RACI

are to advance the theory and practice of Polymer Science by:

The Polymer Division of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) encompasses a diverse and exiting range of chemical disciplines from both Australia and New Zealand, which ensure that a wide range of topics is covered at our vibrant Australasian Polymer Symposia (APS), which are held every 12 to 18 months (the next APS will be held in Melbourne in the first week of December, 2008). In addition to the periodic Australasian Polymer Symposium, the RACI Polymer Division also supports a range of symposia and activities at local and national levels, such as the Solomon Lectures, to promote polymer science and technology.

International collaborations and linkages have always been a strong focus as our division members are highly active on an international level, leading to an influx of expertise to Australian polymer science and us strongly contributing to research and conference activities abroad. Many of our division members are active in key IUPAC committees and participate in the organising committees of the Pacific Polymer Federation (of which we were a founding member). The vibrant international embedding of our activities is evident by the large numbers of international speakers at the Australasian Polymer Symposia as well as the frequent invitations our members receive to international conferences.

We are committed to encouraging the next generation of polymer cientists to excel in their chosen research area and are actively promoting the education and participation of students through the Polymer Summer Schools, which are held at a regular basis.

The Polymer Division lives through the many excellent initatives of our members and I look forward to an exciting and productive time towards the 30th APS in Melbourne.
